What are the reasons for conducting an on-site assessment?
Employers have a duty under Section 1910.132 of the OSHA Standard on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to assess and confirm the presence of workplace hazards. This assessment must be certified in writing, detailing the workplace environment and any existing or potential risks. Defective PPE is strictly prohibited under OSHA regulations, and adequate training is mandatory for all employees.
Prior to conducting an analysis and end-user survey, authorization must be obtained from a plant manager or department supervisor. Once approved, representatives from each end-user area should accompany the surveyor.
